One characteristic of the Flint Hills are the narrow, often serpentine roads that cut through the prairie. This particular vantage point emphasizes one instance of this. I came to know of this location through a fellow photographer, and was also captivated by its grand landscape. During my drive to the location on this particular day, the sky was nearly cloudless, and I was becoming frustrated that there would be no subject to photograph. As I got nearer, the temperature was rising, and the sky was soon filled with these impressive cumulus clouds. I used a deep orange filter (#22) to provide a hard contrast between the blue sky and the clouds, and to also enhance the texture of the clouds themselves. I waited for an interesting shadow/light pattern on the expanse of land to make the exposure.
