Coneflowers begin to bloom in mid-summer, and during a visit to the Mount Mitchell Heritage Prairie I found that there was indeed a good display of the variety. I decided to attempt a capure of some detail, although the wind proved to be a frustration during the attempt. The flowers are on relatively long stalks, and consequently sway signigicantly with the wind. After finding this relatively good specimen offset from the neighbor in the background I simply had to wait until the wind was momentarily still enough to capture the flower without any movement.
