If some object obscures part of the sun, the intensity of the light is reduced some which helps in the capture, but there is also an interesting optic "star" created at the obstuction interface. This can add a little interest to an architectural subject if the exposure is taken within the first few seconds as the sun begins to emerge. This worked reasonably well for the historic Bandstand in South Park. The lines of the planting beds also add interest and give the image some perspective.
