This image was captured during January of 2011 during one of the most impressive freezing fog events that I have seen. This was the second morning of the two-day event, and the ice crystals were less impressive than the day before, but still were of appreciable size. The sun was still low, but shining brightly through a thinly cloudled area of the sky. To lessen the brightness and to emphasize the ice crystals, I placed the ice-covered weed directy between the lens and the sun. I focused on the near weeds, but I used a somewhat small aperture to give some definition to the lone pieces of grass out in the field. The morning was relatively clear of fog, and although obscured by the weed, there was a minor sun-pillar. There were obviously some ice crystals in the air.
