The large American flag on the south mound of Fredonia is a well-known southeast Kansas landmark that may be seen for miles. As Fredonia is my hometown, I took the opportunity on one of my trips home to photograph the flag on a fair summer day. Due to the size of the flag, it is naturally quite high, and in order to get a full frame image the camera had to be pointed upward rather severely. To include something other than sky, I stood behind an olive tree to make the exposure. A relatively large aperture was used to blur the leaves.
