I planned this early morning outing to the Allen Fieldhouse due to the anticipated coincidence of the moonset and sunrise. I arrived somewhat early to choose a location, and after evaluating the scene, positioned myself such that Phog Allen stood directly in front of a well-lit area of the building. Fortunately the moon was also in a reasonably good position to make the exposure. The inclusion of celestial bodies can add a great deal of interest to the photograph, but often the moon is quite a bit brighter than everything else in the scene. The exposure must therefore be carefully controlled as to retain the detail in the moon, while also giving adequate exposure to everything else. In this case, placing the well-lit areas of the building on zone V, the moon fell on nearly zone VII which would contain some detail. A slightly reduced development was given to the film resulting in a little density reduction in the highlight areas.
