Some of the most dramatic and characteristic scenery of the Flint Hills region seems to occur on the border of Wabaunsee and Geary counties. There are still many expanses of unbroken prairie, and the subtle undulating hills seem to stretch forever. During the late autumn, winter and early spring the grass is a rich golden color, and the light of early morning or late evening seems to set it on fire. It was nearly sunset, and the long shadows were beginning to create nice patterns on the rolling hills. The few clouds were also beginning to pick up a tinge of color from the low sun.
